Following the British Council NET//WORK Residency, we are delighted to showcase the project developments of artists Rita Adib, Maya Chowdhry, Mohamed A. Gawad and Tim Shaw in Net//Work, an online exhibition which runs from 4.5.21 to 7.6.21 and will be hosted on this website.
To celebrate their achievements join us for the Net//Work @ DAS Online Exhibition Opening Event on 4th May 2021, which will take place on Discord between 6pm - 8pm UK time.
You will be able to chat to the artists about their projects, and practices, and attend two performative live events:
At 6.10pm Tim Shaw presents ‘Net Walk’, a series of online performance walks streamed to a specially made website. Net Walk explores sound, video and networked technology through walking, incorporating drop outs, distance, distortion, resolution and signal loss into the performance aesthetic.
At 7.00pm Maya Chowdhry presents a live feed of 'Galvanising Change' in situ at Hulme Community Garden Centre, Manchester. In addition the online audience will have the opportunity to experience a digital version of the piece.
‘How Can You Document the Look of a Lover?’ is a video performance by Rita Adib that investigates the relation between body and borders and how time can be perceived as the barrier.
Mohamed A. Gawad visually maps his research into the conditions that shaped a certain period of composer Dimitri Shostakovich's work, and the structural markers embedded in that period.
All the artists will be available to chat during the event using their preffered text, voice and audio channels. *Please note: The Discord chat will be screen-reader accessible and offers text-to-speech but unfortunately we are unable to provide live captioning for any video and audio conversations that may take place. Users could independently access free web captioning via webcaptioner.com ahead of the Discord event. WebCaptioner is currently only works with Chrome browser.
Upon registering, you will be emailed full details about the event with an access link on the day. You will not need to have a Discord account to attend this event but your DOB will be required for age verification as users need to be over 16.
Please be aware that screenshots will be taken for documentation purposes.
After the event we would be grateful if you would fill in a feedback survey, which will be emailed to you.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries.
We hope you all enjoy Net//Work @ DAS Online Exhibition Opening Event.
